Figures > Scale Figures

Past a certain level of detail, decoration stops and exhibition begins: scale figures are true-to-scale collector figures where pose, drapery, and paintwork follow the source material – not roughly, but measurably. For collectors who'd rather choose one ambitious piece than ten out of habit. Your shelf will notice the difference. So will your guests.

Scale figures – scale is an attitude

Some figures you buy on a whim. A scale figure you buy after work, with product photos open in three tabs and a tape measure at the shelf. The format is the most demanding discipline of figure collecting: true-to-scale characters in a fixed pose, elaborately modeled and painted, often with a designed base that delivers the scene along with it. This isn't about quantity, but about the one performance that carries an entire display case. At Elbenwald you'll find officially licensed scale figures spanning anime, movie, and gaming worlds – for collectors who take the difference between “set up” and “on display” seriously.

What matters most with scale figures?

On three levels: scale, execution, and environment. The scale determines presence and space requirements – the smaller the number after the colon, the larger the figure; exact measurements are on the product page. Execution is recognizable in the details that aren't mandatory: clean color transitions, shading in hair and fabric, a base that belongs to the scene instead of merely supporting it. And the environment decides how long the enjoyment lasts: a stable, level spot, protection from dust and, above all, from direct sunlight – faded paintwork is the most common avoidable damage to high-quality figures. Anyone who rearranges often should also keep the packaging along with its inserts: no transport protection is better than the one shaped exactly for that figure. And anyone who doesn't have the space right now is better off waiting than stacking – a scale figure in a box under the bed is a postponed purchase, not a failed one.

Frequently asked questions

What does the scale mean for scale figures?

It states the size ratio to the character's original height. At a scale of 1:7, the figure equals one-seventh of the assumed body height – so 5 feet 9 inches becomes roughly 25 centimeters. The product page lists the actual measurements.

How do scale figures differ from action figures?

Scale figures stand in a fixed but considerably more detailed pose – modeled like a small sculpture. Action figures rely on joints and versatility, but pay for it with visible joint seams. The action figure for staging, the scale figure for display.

How do I protect a scale figure long-term?

A display case instead of an open shelf, no direct sunlight, a steady room temperature. For cleaning, a soft brush or a blower is enough – no damp cloth on painted surfaces. And keep the original packaging: it's the best transport protection.

Why do scale figures cost more than other formats?

Because of the production effort: individual modeling instead of a uniform silhouette, multi-stage paintwork, often elaborate bases, and small production runs instead of mass production. A scale figure is closer to a sculpture than to a toy – that's reflected in the effort and, accordingly, in the price.

Range overview

Traditionally, the scale format is strongest in the anime world: the One Piece figures, Dragon Ball figures, and Naruto figures show what the format can do, with the thematic umbrella supplied by the anime world. If you collect Western worlds, you'll find what you're looking for at the Harry Potter figures and the Lord of the Rings figures. More compact formats live at the Nendoroids and Funko figures, poseable ones at the action figures – and the figures overview holds all the threads together.

What else goes well with it?

Anyone collecting at this level is usually already thinking further ahead: the collectibles round out your figures with replicas and objects from the same worlds – so the display case shows not just characters, but their stories along with them.
